Friday Whatsit for July 23, 2010
This is a shot of three cells with a particular organelle highlighted with a dye. Most of the time these organelles are represented as tubes or rod-shaped objects, similar in size and shape to bacteria. But happy, healthy cells will chain the rods together to form this sort of pattern.
Other clues: this organelle is known as the cell’s “powerhouse” because it generates energy for all the other processes in the cell. This organelle is also the only organelle besides the nucleus that contains DNA.
What is the organelle in question? Guesses in the comments section, answer on Monday!
